Elewana Elsa’s Kopje Meru is named after Elsa the lioness who was made famous by George and Joy Adamson’s biographical film “Born Free”. Elsa’s Kopje is almost invisible to the eye as you approach its home on Mughwango Hill in Kenya’s Meru National Park. It blends into the rocky crags of the “Kopje” (small hill) and is built very near to the site where the Adamson’s raised Elsa
The area around Elsa’s is wonderful and wild. Activities at Elsa’s include safari game drives, night drives, guided bush walks, day excursions to the Tana River, visits to the Tharaka tribal village on the southern boundary of the Meru National Park, line fishing for catfish and barbel, bush meals, sundowners and massage. Elsa’s Kopje is the only operational camp in the park so guests pretty much have the whole place to themselves.
Elewana Elsa’s Kopje’s Meru has 10 rustic cottages with en-suite, elegantly appointed bathrooms are the ultimate rooms-with-a-view, uniquely designed and crafted, incorporating the natural features of the rocky hillside. Three of these are honeymoon suites with the addition of romantic outside baths and one is a two-bedroom family cottage. In addition to these cottages there is a larger two-bedroom private villa with garden and private pool. In the main area, there is an open bar, lounge and dining room with an exceptionally inviting infinity pool overlooking the Meru plains. The food is traditional Northern Italian cuisine blended with a selection of local and international dishes, fresh baked bread, crisp salads and locally grown vegetables.
