Ubuntu Camp is a small, mobile tented Camp that moves seasonally to follow the Great Wildebeest Migration throughout the Serengeti National Park, ensuring excellent game viewing all year round.
During July to November the Camp is located in northern Serengeti overlooking the famous Mara River. Here it is perfectly positioned to witness the wildebeest’s dramatic river crossing, risking their lives in the crocodile and hippo infested waters. Amongst the lush woodland alongside the river you’ll find herds of elephants, leopards in the shade as well as astounding birdlife. This area is home to large herds of plain game throughout the year, lions, cheetah and vultures are constantly searching for easy prey.
As the animals migrate south in search of fresh new grasses, so does the Camp. From December until March Ubuntu Camp is situated on the open southern plains in the Ngorongoro Conservancy Area. The rich short grass plains here provide the herds with the best conditions to raise their newborn, graze and rest. More than half a million calves are born between January and March. Lion, hyena and cheetah follow in their footpaths for the opportunity to attack.
The Great Migration is one of Africa’s most iconic events and one of the natural wonders of the world. There are approximately two million wildebeest, zebra and gazelles on this endless journey. Daily guided game drives are the best way to see the wildlife, and with such abundance, there’s never a dull moment. As well as the migrating herds, there are plenty of big cats, giraffe, elephant and buffalo sightings across the savannah. Early morning or late afternoons are the ideal drive times, when the wildlife is most active, returning to Camp for lunch and a siesta. All day drives can be arranged with a picnic lunch. In the evening guests convene around the campfire and exchange stories of the day’s sightings before dinner is served under the stars. Ubuntu Camp (North) is close to the main take off area for hot air ballooning, making it very convenient to be ready for launching before dawn.
Comprising of eight unpretentious and well-designed tents, featuring an en-suite bathroom and a small veranda, the Ubuntu Camp offers an authentic East African safari experience. Tents are made up with very comfortable double or twin beds. There is also a family tent which is made up of two ensuite bedrooms with traditional bucket showers and flushing toilets and connected by a shared lounge area. There are two open plan mess tents containing the lounge and dining areas, and leading out to a campfire. These communal tents have open sides to welcome the afternoon breeze
and overlook the plains. Meals are taken in the dining room tent, they are sociable affairs and often the guides will join in too.
