The Calabash Hotel is one of those wonderful, small, luxury boutique hotels that guests return to time after time after time; it feels like an elegant, small private club and is refreshingly understated! It has been owned and managed by an English family for almost 35 years and the whole place feels like it is run by one large extended family. There are only 31 suites set in a horseshoe around gorgeous lawns looking out to the calm, crystal clear, turquoise waters of the stunning sheltered bay. There are also 5 villas for families and groups should you prefer your own space. The food is also excellent.
You can do as much or as little as you want at Calabash. Activities on offer include snorkelling, scuba diving with the on-site dive centre, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boards, there is a fitness centre, yoga, tennis courts, beach boules, steel band music and live music most nights, a spa plus a whole host of island experiences they can organise for you. Dining is also quite an experience with their signature evening restaurant, Rhodes, being a Gary Rhodes creation. There is also the Beach Club Restaurant and Bar for drinks, tapas and lunch. At tea time sandwiches and cakes are served and at 6:00pm canapes and drinks of your choice are brought o your balcony or terrace for sundowners.
The 31 suites are comprised of 4 different category of suites plus the huge Penthouse suite with its own private pool. All the rooms are decorated in a fresh colonial Caribbean style with comfortable sitting areas and a decent sized balcony or terrace. All suites have modern bathrooms, walk-in wardrobes, air conditioning, flat screen TV with DVD player, iPod docking station, WiFi, minibar and tea and coffee facilities. There are also 5 Villas on the estate which can be rented and make use of all the hotel facilities.
