Wilderness Savuti is in the vast Linyanti wildlife reserve which is renowned for its predators and large concentrations of game, particularly elephant and buffalo. It is in a very remote area 17 kilometres “downstream” from the Zibadianja Lagoon and offers guests abundant game viewing privately and exclusively.

For 28 years the Savute Channel did not flow and was a dry grassland “channel” but in 2008 this channel flowed once again to become a gin-clear, deep water channel harbouring hippo, aquatic life and waterbird life. It has flowed every flood season since but who knows for how long this will continue. Everything has had to adapt to the new source of water; the prey species and the predators have learnt the new rules of engagement; for some this new source is a hindrance and an obstacle, for others it is a food source and a place of refuge. Sable and Roan antelope occur, as well as Lion, Leopard, Cheetah and Wild dog. The Linyanti marshes are home to Red Lechwe, Sitatunga, Hippo, Crocodiles and wonderful birdlife. Moving along the fringes of Botswana’s Linyanti waterways guests can see Kudu, Zebra, Buffalo, Waterbuck and Impala. Activities on offer are day and night game drives, nature walks with a guide, boating if the water levels are up and visiting the log pile hide for safe, up-close animal viewing.
Accommodation is in six large walk-in tents that are raised off the ground. The en-suite facilities include a bathroom and shower, hand basin and flush toilet. The family unit consists of two ensuite tents with separate entrances, however they have a shared outdoor deck. The camp has a thatched dining area, bar and plunge pool, all on raised wooden decks, providing a wonderful view of the Savute Channel and its wildlife just in front. The Savuti Star Bed faces the Zibadianja Lagoon and is a unique way to sleep-out under the stars surrounded by nature.
We’ll meet at 4 p.m. at our hotel in Luzern (Lucerne) for a “Welcome to Switzerland” meeting. Then we’ll take a meandering evening walk through Switzerland’s most charming lakeside town, and get acquainted with one another over dinner together. Sleep in Luzern (2 nights). No bus. Walking: light.
Enjoy an orientation walk of Zurich’s OLD TOWN, Switzerland’s center of banking and commerce. Then, leave Zurich and start your Swiss adventure. You’ll quickly discover that Switzerland isn’t just home to the Alps, but also to some of the most beautiful lakes. First, stop at the foot of the Jura Mountains in the picturesque town of Biel, known as Bienne by French-speaking Swiss, famous for watch-making, and explore the historical center. Next, enjoy a scenic drive to lakeside Neuchâtel, dominated by the medieval cathedral and castle. Time to stroll along the lake promenade before continuing to stunning Geneva, the second-largest city in Switzerland, with its fantastic lakeside location and breathtaking panoramas of the Alps.
Our morning drive takes us from Swiss lakes to Swiss Army. At the once-secret Swiss army bunker at Fortress Fürigen, we’ll see part of the massive defense system designed to keep Switzerland strong and neutral. Afterward, a short drive into the countryside brings us to the charming Alpine village of Engelberg, our picturesque home for the next two days. We’ll settle into our lodge then head out for an orientation walk. Our stroll through the village will end at the Engelberg Abbey, a Benedictine monastery with its own cheese-making operation. You’ll have free time to wander back before dinner together. Sleep in Engelberg (2 nights). Bus: 1 hr. Walking: light.
